Physics : Electricity & Magnetism

Course Information and Requirements

This is a course designed to help you learn the material presented in the Electricity & Magnetism lecture.  By performing experiments and completing recitation activities, you will gain a much more complete understanding of the requisite material.  Also, problem areas will be identified easily and
you will know what questions to ask your TAs or tutors when the opportunity arises.

All recitation activities will be graded by your Recitation TA and all lab activities will be graded by your Lab TA.  Both types of activity must be completed in the classroom or you will receive a grade of zero for that week’s activity.  Excuses will be accepted via a completed Excuse Form submitted to your Recitation TA the week following your absence.  Any excuse forms submitted late will not be considered.  For example, if you have recitation before lab, make sure you give your Excuse form to the TA in recitation and not lab.  Any activity that has a valid excuse (validity is determined by both the TA and the course administrator) will not need to be made-up.

Please be aware that beverages and food are NOT allowed in either recitation or lab.  Also (and we feel that this goes without saying for adult students such as yourselves) smoking and horseplay will not be tolerated.

Each lab/recitation group is comprised of 3 students.  These groups are not assigned, so feel free to be in whichever group you choose.  However, we do retain the right to reassign group members if problems arise in class.  Each group will complete the activity together and hand in only one copy of the activity with all members’ names on it.  All activities can be found at http://class.phys.psu.edu/p212fa.  Please make sure you read through the activity for a particular week before class so that you may begin immediately once class has started.

All other information on topics such as Academic Dishonesty may be found in the Penn State Principles at http://www.psu.edu/ur/principles.html.  Now stop reading this depressing list of rules and regulations and let’s do some physics!
